Bioinnovo at the 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show

Organized by the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS), the 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show will be held on July 14-17 in a hybrid modality. During the event, Bioinnovo representatives will present the studies conducted with Vedevax BLOCK, the first targeted subunit vaccine against BVDV.

On Friday July 16th at noon, Demian Bellido, leader of the Bovine Recombinant Vaccine project at Bioinnovo – Vetanco and Mauro Venturini, technical advisor at UAA COOP. Ltda, will present the poster “Active and Passive Immunity in calves vaccinated with a targeted subunit vaccine against BVDV” in the framework of the 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show.

Vedevax BLOCK vaccine has been developed by Bioinnovo, the public-private technology company formed by Vetanco laboratory and INTA for the prevention of bovine viral diarrhea in a dairy herd.

Vedevax BLOCK is the most novel vaccine in the market for the control of one of the diseases that causes the more losses in cattle breeding, bovine viral diarrhea (BVD). Its strength is founded on the two features that make it unique, it is a targeted subunit vaccine. Subunit means that in order to achieve the immune response, Vedevax BLOCK does not use the whole virus, but only a fragment (glycoprotein E2), and is targeted as it has a smart molecule that seeks the defense cells in the animal.

During the presentation, Bioinnovo specialists will share the results confirming that Vedevax BLOCK is safe and efficacious to be used in pregnant cows and is capable of passively immunizing calves. They will also show that maternal antibodies do not interfere with calf immunization, since calves developed a strong active immune response against BVDV after receiving one dose of the new vaccine.

The 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show will take place during July 14-17 in a hybrid modality, virtual and in-person, at the Kentucky International Convention Center, Louisville, Kentucky, United States of America.

The American Society of Animal Science promotes the development, exchange and application of scientific knowledge on the care and responsible use of animals to improve animal and human health and welfare.
