Dr Andrés Wigdorovitz was appointed as CONICET’s head researcher.
According to the CONICET’s criteria ruling the career of researcher, to reach this category “the researcher must have conducted extensive original and highly-relevant scientific or technological development research, as demonstrated by publications and by the contribution of his work to the advancement of his field of expertise in science or technology. He must also have training skills and be able to direct research teams.”
Dr Wigdorovitz far exceeds these requirements, since he has worked since the beginning of his researcher career on subjects associated with diagnosis and prevention of animal diseases (vaccines, diagnostic kits, and antibodies).
His first research work focused on the production of vaccines in transgenic plants, and on subunit recombinant vaccines in other systems, such as insect and bacterial cells. He has also participated in the development and production of several diagnostic kits, in particular, of the kit for the detection of equine infectious anemia, marketed since 2011.
Another milestone in his research work has been the IgY platform development (production of polyclonal antibodies in eggs), which generated a product family and our technology-based public-private company Bioinnovo, established by a partnership between Vetanco and IncuINTA.
Moreover, Andrés Wigdorovitz published 52 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals; is the author of 6 patents; has received 11 awards – 5 out of which are international –; and is Professor at Agrobiotechnology Engineering, UNSAM (Universidad Nacional de San Martin), and at the Intellectual Property master’s program, Universidad Austral. He is currently INCUINTA’s Coordinator, and Bioinnovo’s Director.
